Solo Exhibition

 

Since her first solo exhibition, Faces of Our Time, in 1998, Park Sanghee has spent the last 27 years meticulously observing the ever-changing facade of the city. Refined through dozens of solo exhibitions and numerous domestic and international residencies, her gaze now transcends mere representation of scenery. She delves deep into the material reality of the city as a vast organism and the existential solitude of modern individuals hidden beneath its surface.

The singular language that defines Park Sang-hee’s artistic world originated from her pioneering use of industrial adhesive vinyl—a provocative medium first introduced in her 2004 exhibition, Signboards are Art.

The artist’s intense labor of cutting and layering the cold, artificial vinyl used in commercial signage transforms the brilliant yet ephemeral illusions of the city into a solid, tactile, and material presence. The layers and contours carved by the blade serve as a record, testifying to the density of life concealed behind the city's flamboyant exterior.

The current exhibition, City and In-between, is a significant occasion that brings together the nightscapes she has long explored with her recently expanded series of daylight scenes. A city never exists as a single face. Between the orderly functions of the day and the extravagant desires of the night, traces of lives we often overlook are accumulated in layers. The sleepless nights shimmering with neon lights, the quiet order of the day, and the countless textures of life that fill the space in between are reimagined through the artist’s hands into the more mature aesthetic concept of "Fragmented Landscapes."

At Art Salon de AC, through the undulating surfaces of layered vinyl, viewers will encounter the true inner self of the city that we have inadvertently passed by, gaining a new perspective on the spaces in which we live.
