For the past 27 years, Park Sang-hee has explored the dual nature of the city as a vast organism and the existential landscapes of the modern individuals living within it. Meticulously observing the urban underside where the orderly functions of the day intersect with the flamboyant desires of the night, the artist captures the traces of life and layers of emotion accumulated therein.

The singular language that defines her artistic world originates from her use of "industrial adhesive vinyl," a byproduct of the urban environment. Her intense labor of cutting and layering these artificial materials—typically used for commercial signage—transforms the brilliant yet ephemeral illusions of the city into a solid, tactile, and material presence. The contours and layers carved by her blade serve as a record, testifying to the density of life and the "sleeplessness" of modern society concealed behind the city's flamboyant facade.

While following classical modes of representation, Park’s work achieves a unique painterly depth by deconstructing and reassembling materials, much like the fragmented pieces of a digital society. Recently, she has expanded her gaze beyond the nightscapes to include daylight scenes permeated by natural light, elevating the city into a "psychological landscape" where the desires and memories of modern people are condensed. Through the undulating surfaces of layered vinyl, viewers encounter the true inner self of the city that they have inadvertently passed by, gaining a new perspective on the spaces in which we live.
