Song Young Wha 송영화
Born in 1968 in Seoul, Song Young-hwa graduated from Seoul National University's Department of Western Painting after attending Seoul Arts High School. She then went on to study in Germany, completing a master's degree in Fine Arts at the Stuttgart Academy of Art (ABK Stuttgart) and the Berlin IFKIK Institute.
The artist, who admired German Abstract Expressionism, dedicated herself to painting during her years of study in Germany. Her contemplation of materials, color, and canvas intertwined with her search for her own identity, leading her to naturally transition toward Minimal Art. While working primarily with drawing, she discovered the flexibility of thread as a medium for expressing lines. Gradually, she reinterpreted her drawings into knitting and transferred them onto the canvas and space.
