HONG ILHWA 홍 일화
Hong Ilhwa paints a picture of a forest that restores itself every day on a land that has lost its vitality due to the providence of nature or human destruction. The scene, where the dead forest and the new forest are reborn, is a natural wonder that repeats the extinction and creation of the nature.
The primitive forest, untouched by man, is a world full of wiggling energy, and carries on the canvas the will of nature to build a new life on its place, never erasing a destroyed place where life has been lost.
In the writer's note, "a forest, an ecological wild space, is an unknown subject of fear, but it retains a mystery because humans cannot touch it.
Ilhwa graduated from France École des Beaux-Arts을 졸업 후 DNSEP-Diplôme national supérieur d'expression plastique. Currently, he is a member of the SONAMU Association of korean artist in France as well as a PR ambassadors of the Korea future Environment Association of Korea. He has been active in his works between France and Korea. Mainly based on 'nature', 'eco-friendly', and 'women's rights', colorful colors and factual paintings have been being worked on.

“Birds move freely between sky and earth, between humanity and nature, between mystery and reality.
Perched on branches, they are watchers who observe the balance of the world, and like messengers from an unseen realm, they remain close to us yet can never be fully grasped. Perhaps this is because birds are the beings that have preserved the sense of magic we have lost for the longest time. They communicate through sound, read the breath of the seasons in their feathers, and measure the depth of space with a single glance. Their delicate sensibility touches a mystery long forgotten by humans. The figures in the paintings meet the birds’ gaze.
As the boundaries blur, I capture, within that narrow gap, a moment when nature and humanity face each other once again. This encounter is neither fantasy nor fable. It is an attempt to revive forgotten memories, a quiet incantation meant to awaken our primal senses—the part of us that still waits for magic.”

For Hong Il-hwa, magic is not a supernatural miracle. It is the restoration of the senses, the return of our capacity to believe in the world. Through the forest, the artist gently knocks on the door of the senses we have lost. The language of the wind, the density of silence, and the temperature of light gradually become perceptible within his paintings.
