Thousands of shades of gray nuances that blur the view of the audience captivate us. For Choi, the cube is « an unique world and an ideal space to give stability and spread the imagination ». The artist was very interested in materiality (matérialité), which is considered an essential stage in art. What the author wants is eternity. To perpetuate the aesthetics of his installation, he creates a world of graphics sharpness by using a perspective on colored grid paper to create a detailed representation of the installation cube.
Artist's note
« Lost city » « À la recherche de la cité perdue»
My recent drawing work feels the weight of oppression that was so obvious in the last Corona period that it was no longer obvious. This weight threw boxes of my past memories as I drew a desire for travel and freedom on a road map « Carte de routier » that I stumbled upon.
The advent of navigation has made road maps obsolete, and this road map has become another object in my memory ecosystem that never goes away. Memories that I can't see but never disappear...
Strasbourg, Nice Nice, Paris, etc., are represented on the street map and are present in the ecosystem of memories that capture my time in that space.
The interest in my memory has created an ecosystem of memories that is formed by combining spatial and temporal nature, and through this, it attempts to comfort and heal me and us.
