Art Salon de Assi Gallery, an open space that has continually offered comfort and peace through art, is celebrating its 2nd anniversary. Over the past two years, the gallery has curated a variety of artistic endeavors, and to mark this meaningful milestone, it presents a special two-person exhibition.
Titled The Poetry of Geometry, the exhibition brings together the distinct visual languages of artists Ko Songhwa and Jin Hyoseok. Within this poetic space, their works intersect to explore the resonances created between sensuous minimalism and contemporary formal structures imbued with spirit.
Both artists have long established their artistic foundations in France and are active members of the Sonamu Art Association, leading dynamic practices at the boundaries of contemporary art. Though their approaches may seem divergent at first glance, their works converge on a shared pursuit: the act of contemplation through form.
고송화 KO Songhwa

Artist Ko Songhwa has long captured a sense of meditative tension and inner resonance through the meticulous act of drawing lines across monochromatic surfaces. While her previous works often balanced curved and straight lines to create a fluid visual rhythm, her latest series explores new structural orders through the juxtaposition of geometric forms.
Circles, triangles, and rectangles—clearly defined shapes—are rendered in spectral lines of rainbow hues, adding vibrant rhythm and chromatic vibrations to her monochrome canvases. These works propose a more articulated, structural visual experience, merging the Eastern aesthetics of Dansaekhwa with Western Constructivism and Minimal Art. The result is a unique abstract language where restraint and visual precision coexist.
What stands out in Ko Songhwa’s practice is the sculptural depth that evokes sensory transference. Her flowing lines extend beyond mere visual composition—they resonate like waves (les ondes), becoming tactile impressions that seem to be felt on the skin. Most notably, these waves appear to transform into light. The thick, deep lines repeatedly engraved onto the surface register like traces of time and create a luminous visual vibration that shifts with the viewer’s movement and the angle of light.
In this way, the painting surface becomes more than a flat plane—it is a living field where light and sensation intersect. Ko’s work presents a contemporary evolution of the meditative tradition of Korean Dansaekhwa, offering a poetic geometry of waves, color, light, and rhythm. It is a new abstract space where perception and sensation meet.
진효석 JIN Hyo_Seok
Cross-Section of Light, Breath of Space
Jin Hyo-Seok’s sculptures do not speak. They fold and unfold, layer and overlap, quietly opening and closing upon themselves. Color speaks sparingly, while line never stops moving. His work does not seek a definitive beginning or end; rather, it carves out the fleeting moment where sensation lingers.
Cold industrial materials grow warm to the touch, and the reflected world seeps silently into the work. In that space, a new sense of place is born—twisted at unfamiliar angles, gently trembling along the grain of time. Light slices through surfaces, and each surface summons another. Invisible structures reveal themselves along the path of the gaze, and in the midst of this quiet tension, the viewer becomes part of the space.
He asks—what lies between the plane and the volume, the inside and the outside, the artwork and the self? There are no fixed boundaries. Every edge is loose, every form provisional. Jin Hyo-Seok’s geometry is not a matter of calculation, but of perception; not construction, but an act of opening. The material properties of his media soften or harden through the artist’s touch, and the reflected light, in tandem with time’s passage, etches new textures into the work.
These quiet sculptures come alive only when the viewer moves. As we stand before them, it is as though we face a mirror, compelled to reexamine our own position. The artwork surpasses its static form, becoming a living presence within the flows of movement, sensation, and awareness. His work is not a fixed ‘space’ but an ever-shifting ‘state.’
Constantly transforming, yet never collapsing—his sculptural language is a subtle vibration that awakens the senses, a silent geometry that points beyond perception.
